RTM is a closed-moulding process that involves injecting a thermoset resin into a closed mould containing a reinforcement material, such as carbon or glass fibres. The mould is pre-heated to a specific temperature, and a vacuum is applied to remove any air from the mould cavity. The resin is then injected under pressure into the mould, saturating the reinforcement material and filling the mould cavity.
Once the resin cures, the part is removed from the mould. The result is a high-strength, lightweight composite part with excellent surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
One of the key benefits of RTM moulding is that it produces parts with a high level of dimensional accuracy and repeatability. This is because the process is automated and the mould is closed, which eliminates any external factors that could affect the part's geometry.
